28.09.12 Letterpress Book Update
Recently finished, my new letterpress book 'Albert, Ernest & the Titanic' has been quite well received. The book has won the NUI Art & Design Prize 2012 and on the back of the book I have won the RDS Printmaker Award 2012. Thanks for all your praise and appreciation for the project, it has been a brilliant journey.
The Cork launch of the book will be at the Wandesford Quay Gallery, Cork on Thursday 25th of October and the exhibition will run until Saturday 10th of November. The exhibition will then travel to the Copperhouse Gallery, Synge Street, Dublin 8 from Thursday 15th to Tuesday 27th November.

For the last two years I've been working on a very large artists' book called Albert, Ernest & the Titanic. The book tells the story of the printers who worked aboard Titanic and who travelled on her maiden voyage towards New York. 'Find: Reclamations of Love' is a new shop on Dublin's Cow's Lane. It's a treasure trove of retro and antique delights, many refurbished to a very high standard. We recently did their identity and some pieces of promotional work. Drop over if you get a chance!

01.09.11 Here's to Autumn!
After our annual leave we're now back in the studio and ready to work on a diverse range of new projects. On the job desk are some interesting print projects, a way finding problem that needs fixing, a screen based motion piece and an ever looming MA project that needs considerable attention. Here's to Autumn and here's a busy lead up to the New Year!
20.04.11 Laser cut wooden type
As part of the ongoing MA project I've recently had the opportunity to laser cut a typeface I'm working on. It is a poster face based on an 1870's font designed originally by William Hamilton Page, which is known as Minnesota. The end result (hopefully!) will be a full case which can be composed and printed letterpress. Below are images of the prototype (pun intended) and it's proof print. 19.04.11 Iceberg, Right Ahead!
Last week saw the 99th anniversary of Frederick Fleet's famous words and the subsequent sinking of the RMS Titanic in the North Atlantic. Aswell as running Fjord, I'm currently studying for my MA in Design at the National College of Art & Design. I hope to produce a commemorative book for the 100th anniversary of the sinking next year and am well on the way with my research. It will be based on the printers aboard and should result in an interesting narrative, juxtaposed with the familiar story of the Titanic. The most exciting part for me is getting back into the letterpress workshop and experimenting with all the various wood and lead type, the inks and the paper.
I'm keeping a blog of the progress called Titanic Letterpress, which I hope to update a lot more frequently than I have been!

Last Summer we created the identity and promotional material for Dublin Civic Trust's 'Dublin Garden Squares Day' festival. It's playful design was well received and we had a great day out visiting various Georgian gems around Dublin. Check the portfolio for project images!

We have recently finished up a series of posters for Dublin City Council’s ‘Dublin Cycling City’ campaign. Inspired by the aesthetic of Otl Aicher‘s iconic '72 Munich Olympics posters, they should be up all around the city in the coming months.
13.01.11 Exit: Pursued by a Bear identity & packaging
Cork based outfit Exit: Pursued by a Bear have been moving up in Ireland's music scene for some time. We created their identity and have so far rolled it out across various printed promotional materials and packaging designs. Check the portfolio!
13.01.11 Prodigal Son film title and credit sequence
We were approached to create the title sequence and design the credits for the Irish short film Prodigal Son. We ended up designing much more including film posters and a modernist identity for the production studio, Story Factory. When the film premiered in the Light House cinema (Smithfield, Dublin) it attracted a record number of viewers! Check out images of the project in the portfolio.

13.01.11 FixCancer campaign identity and kit design
FixCancer is an Irish cycling charity aimed at creating awareness of cancer by completing endurance cycles across Ireland and Europe. Early last year we were approached by them to create their campaign identity and to roll it out across various platforms including a team jersey/kit. We happen to love cycling so we were extremely excited to be working with them. You'll find images of the project in the portfolio section.

We're delighted that Irish fashion designer Sian Jacobs is happy with her new website showcasing her various collections. Over the course of the project we've taken a great shine to her cashmere creations.
